The Philly POPS Festival Chorus is having auditions for the upcoming season which will include POPS Goes to Hollywood with conductor Todd Ellison (September 27, 28 and 29), A Philly POPS Christmas (December 6-21) with conductor David Charles Abell and featuring Hamilton’s Mandy Gonzalez, and Sondheim: A 90th Birthday Celebration with conductor David Charles Abell (April 17, 18 and 19, 2020). We would like to invite you and your musical friends to come sing with us!
The Philly POPS Festival Chorus is an all-volunteer 170-voice chorus that performs with The Philly POPS under the direction of Jeff Kern, Associate Professor in the Vocal Division for University of the Arts. Founded in 2002, the Festival Chorus performs with the Philly POPS orchestra during the annual Christmas concert series as well as some subscription series throughout the year. The chorus has performed with many professional artists including Faith Prince, Capathia Jenkins, Ashley Brown, Lisa Howard, Lauren Kennedy, Rachel York, Alice Ripley, Ann Hampton Callaway, Lisa Vroman, Mandy Gonzalez, and The von Trapp Family Children.
Auditions will be:
Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 4pm-8pm
Merriam Theater Building
250 South Broad Street, Room 506
For the audition, please prepare a minimum of 16 measures of any song in any style. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. The audition will also consist of sight-reading. Music reading skills and choral singing experience are REQUIRED. Current members of the POPS Festival Chorus do not need to audition, but we invite you to send your friends.
All Festival Chorus rehearsals will be held at St. Luke and the Epiphany, 330 South 13th Street, Center City, on Tuesday evenings from 7pm-10pm. Festival Chorus rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, August 13, from 7pm-10pm. We rehearse every Tuesday until the performances.
