When you think about the word “POP,” it brings to mind images of an exciting sound, a burst of intensity, or a snap of energy. If you apply these ideas within the context of symphonic music performances, you will truly understand exactly what a POPS orchestra is all about.
In contrast with more traditional, classical orchestral performances, The Philly POPS’ concerts are all about having fun while experiencing an eclectic and dynamic mix of musical genres presented by professional-caliber musicians and vocalists, paired with some of the most accomplished guest performers in the business today — from Tony Award winners to Broadway and film’s brightest stars. These high-energy events feature both the classic standards and modern-day hits that you know and love, and best of all, they fully engage our audience members with jokes, laughter, unabashed seat dancing, and palpable joy.
We strive to create fresh, innovative programming each season under the direction of one of America’s most popular POPS conductors, our Music Director Maestro Todd Ellison, who is one of The New York Times "Electric Conductors." For select shows, the POPS is led by Artistic Director for Jazz Terell Stafford and Principal Guest Conductor David Charles Abell.
