Announces Music Director Designate
Michael Krajewski will be the next conductor of The Philly POPS.
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Encore Series, Inc., presenter of The Philly POPS®, announced conductor Michael Krajewski as its Music Director Designate in a press conference with The Honorable Michael A. Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia, this morning at City Hall. Maestro Krajewski will lead the orchestra beginning next year, The POPS 35th Annual Season, and will succeed Peter Nero, the orchestra’s founding conductor and Artistic Director.

I am thrilled such a talent as Maestro Krajewski will succeed The POPS founding conductor, Peter Nero, as this orchestra embarks on its exciting next chapter.”

Krajewski is currently the principal pops conductor of the Atlanta, Houston, and Jacksonville Symphony Orchestras. As a guest conductor he has performed with the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony as well as many other orchestras across the United States. Krajewski has a regular presence on the podium in Canada, including concerts with the Calgary Philharmonic and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. International tours have included the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and an upcoming series with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lampur. He has recorded two albums with the Houston Symphony and has collaborated with artists like flutist James Galway, Roberta Flack, Art Garfunkel and mezzo Marilyn Horne. Krajewski holds degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He furthered his training at the Pierre Monteux Domaine School for Conductors and was a Dorati Fellowship Conductor with the Detroit Symphony, later becoming its assistant conductor. Krajewski was resident conductor of the Florida Symphony and served for 11 years as music director of the Modesto Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to his Music Director Designate appointment, Krajewski will guest conduct at two POPS concert series this year. In March 2013 he will conduct “An Evening with Lennon and McCartney” featuring the Classical Mystery Tour and in April 2013 he will conduct “Bond and Beyond.”
In August, ESI announced the 2012/2013 Season would be Peter Nero’s final as conductor and Artistic Director of Peter Nero and The Philly Pops. Nero will close out the 34th Annual Season in The Kimmel Center with “Super POPS Broadway” in May 2013 and is expected to conduct the annual July 3rd POPS concert at Independence Hall.
