Programs for Students and Teachers
PETER NERO JAZZ ACADEMY
The Peter Nero Jazz Academy is a fellowship program for local student jazz musicians. A small number of exceptionally promising high school students are selected to participate in the Academy, which includes regular coachings and side-by-side collaborations with POPS musicians, in addition to unique performance opportunities. The distinguished career of two-time Grammy Award-winner Peter Nero, combined with the musical expertise and versatility of musicians from The POPS, provides a unique perspective to the next generation of professional musicians.
OPEN REHEARSAL
Ever wondered how a top-notch professional pops orchestra prepares for a performance? This season's Open Rehearsal will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 10:30 am - 1 pm in Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. MUSICAL MENTORS PROGRAM
Artistic endeavors provide young people with meaningful opportunities for personal growth. Through the Musical Mentors program, Peter Nero and the Philly Pops establishes ongoing, in-depth partnerships with a small number of school music programs in the School District of Philadelphia. Musicians from The POPS develop close relationships with students and teachers through frequent collaboration, providing support to teachers and allowing students to develop a greater understanding and enjoyment of music.
MUSICIANS IN SCHOOLS
POPS musicians appear regularly at a wide range of schools and school music programs. Programs are flexible and tailored to meet the needs of each school. They range from small ensemble concerts designed to introduce students to basic musical elements, to special workshops and demonstrations, to section and ensemble coachings of middle and high school music groups.
