Community Partnerships

Peter Nero and the Philly Pops strives to be a vibrant and fully integrated part of Philadelphia’s cultural life, making meaningful connections with residents, organizations, and community partners.  Each season The POPS cultivates relationships with a number of local organizations to provide service to a diverse set of communities while providing access to, and stimulating interest in, music.

POPS ABOUT TOWN
Peter Nero and the Philly Pops appears at a variety of venues in the Delaware Valley region.  Concerts include the free annual July 3 “POPS on Independence” concert on historic Independence Mall, presented by the Independence Visitor Center and Historic Philadelphia, Inc., as well as the annual concert at the Trenton War Memorial of New Jersey, benefiting uninsured and indigent patients of Morris Hall and the St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center of Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

Ensembles of POPS musicians, such as Peter Nero’s Philly Pops Festival Brass, regularly perform free concerts at a wide range of community events and public spaces throughout the area.

Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, as well as POPS chamber ensembles, may be available to perform in your community!  Please contact us for more information.

AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM IN PHILADELPHIA
The POPS is committed to celebrating jazz, popular, and classical repertoire as important pieces of the American experience.  Our collaboration with the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) draws powerful connections between The POPS' concert repertoire and African American cultural heritage.  This collaboration includes such events as "Motown Magic at AAMP," a unique, interactive workshop featuring POPS guest artists Spectrum, on the birth of soul music and the legendary Motown songbook.

POPS FESTIVAL CHORUS
The POPS Festival Chorus, a diverse group of 125 voices selected by audition, is a volunteer chorus that joins Peter Nero and the Philly Pops for their Holiday POPS! performances.  Membership is open to all interested singers ages 16 and up.  POPS Chorus Director Jeff Kern leads the Festival Chorus.

SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA
The POPS makes a special commitment to enhancing the lives of students in the School District of Philadelphia.  With the support and cooperation of the District’s Office of Creative and Performing Arts, Peter Nero and the Philly Pops provides enhancement to school music programs through the Musical Mentors program, musician appearances in schools, and a variety of other initiatives.
